Spyfall is a social deduction game where players are at a specific location—except for one player, the Spy, who has no idea where they are. The Spy's goal is to figure out the location without being caught. The other players' goal is to identify the Spy.

📖 How to Play

The Roles

The Civilian (Non-Spies): You know the location (e.g., "Space Station", "Pirate Ship"). Your goal is to reveal that you know where you are to other Locals, without giving the location away to the Spy.
The Spy: You don't know where you are. Your goal is to listen carefully, ask vague questions, and figure out the location before time runs out.

The Flow

Start: A location is chosen (randomly by the app). Roles are assigned. Start the timer (usually 8 minutes).
Questioning: A player starts by asking another player a question. "Hey Bob, is it hot in here?"
Answering: Bob answers, "Yes, extremely." Bob then asks a question to someone else (cannot be the person who just asked him).
Ending the Game:
- Spy Guesses: At any time, the Spy can reveal themselves and guess the location. If correct, Spy wins. If wrong, Locals win.
- Vote: At any time, players can call for a vote to accuse someone of being the Spy. If unanimous (except the accused), the game ends. If the accused is the Spy, Locals win.
- Time's Up: Players vote on who the Spy is.

Location: The Beach

Alice (Civilian): "Bob, what did you wear today?"
Bob (Civilian): "Just some shorts, nothing fancy. Carol, do you see any animals around?"
Carol (Spy): (Thinking: Shorts? Maybe a gym? Or a park?) "Uh, yes, I see a few birds." (Safe guess) "Dave, are people working hard here?"
Dave (Civilian): (Suspicious of Carol's vague answer) "Not really, everyone is pretty relaxed."

💡 Pro Tips

For Civilian

Be Subtle: Don't ask "Is there sand?" (Too obvious for the Spy). Ask "Did you remember to bring the towel?"
Don't Be Too Vague: If you are too vague, other Locals might think YOU are the Spy.
Listen to Answers: The Spy often gives generic answers because they lack specific context.

For Spy

Listen First: Try to let others talk for a bit to gather clues before you commit to a specific line of questioning.
Follow Up: If someone says "It's cold," you can safely complain about the temperature too.
Be Confident: Hesitation is the biggest tell. Answer quickly, even if you're making it up.

How many players do I need?

Spyfall works best with 4-10 players. With fewer players, the Spy has a harder time blending in.
