Spyfall Beginner Guide: Learn to Play in 5 Minutes
Master the Art of Deception and Deduction
Spyfall is a game of questions, answers, and intense suspicion. Unlike other social
deduction games, it's not just about who you are, but where you are. One player is the
Spy, and everyone else is at a specific location (like a Casino, a Space Station, or a
Pirate Ship). The Spy doesn't know the location. Their goal? Figure it out without getting caught.
📈 Your Learning Path:
- ✅ Read this guide (5 min)
- The Spy: Doesn't know the location. Tries to blend in and guess where everyone is.
- Non-Spies: Know the location. Try to find the Spy without revealing the location.
Core Game Flow
- Role Assignment: Players check their secret role. One is the Spy; others see the
Location.
- Question Rounds: The timer starts (usually 8 minutes). A starting player asks
someone a question.
- Answering: The asked player answers, then asks a new person a question.
- Accusation: At any time, a player can stop the clock to accuse someone. A unanimous
vote eliminates the suspect.
- Spy Guess: The Spy can reveal themselves at any time to guess the location. If
correct, they win immediately!

Chapter 2: First-Time Player Preparation
The Golden Rule of Spyfall
Balance is Key: If your questions/answers are too specific, the Spy will guess the
location. If they are too vague, you'll look like the Spy!
Pre-Game Checklist
- Review the list of possible locations (usually provided in the game app or reference card).
- Relax! Being the Spy can be stressful, but it's also the most exciting role.
- Listen carefully. Every question and answer is a clue.

Chapter 3: Playing Your First Game
As a Non-Spy (Civilian): Proving Your Innocence
Your goal is to signal to other players that you know the location, without being obvious enough for the
Spy to catch on.
Strategy:
- Ask "Inside" Questions: Ask things that only make sense in this location.
- Example (Location: School): "Do you hate the food here?" (Vague enough, but makes
sense).
- Avoid Direct Facts: Don't ask "Is there a blackboard?" (Too obvious!).
As the Spy: The Art of Blending In
You have no idea where you are. You need to fish for information while pretending you belong.
Strategy:
- Listen First: Try not to be the first to ask or answer if possible.
- Give Generic Answers: If asked "How did you get here?", say "I drove" or "Took the
bus" (works for many places).
- Turn the Tables: When it's your turn to ask, follow up on a previous topic to seem
engaged.

Chapter 4: Common Mistakes to Avoid
For Non-Spies
- Mistake: Asking "What are you wearing?"
Why it's bad: It's a cliché Spyfall question that gives zero information about the location.
Fix: Ask about the environment, the smell, the temperature, or the daily routine.
For Spies
- Mistake: Panicking when asked a specific question.
Why it's bad: Long pauses or stuttering are dead giveaways.
Fix: Have a few "safety answers" ready (e.g., "It's complicated," "I'd rather not say").
